FAQs
I’m about to hire a new employee. How do I calculate the amount of taxes I will be paying?
Both Federal and State taxes can, and often do, vary from year to year. Here is a great link to calculate the payroll costs based on the employee’s salary:

As an example (2024), a $20.00/hour salary calculates to an annual salary of $36,400.00 with payroll costs of $3449.60, totaling $39,849.60.
I’d like to terminate an employee, but I’m not sure how to go about it.
Communication and documentation is the key. The last thing you want to do is let a good employee go because of a misunderstanding. Before you make a decision to terminate, ask yourself a few questions such as, has the employee received proper training for the position, have they received feedback and/or counseling, are performance issues documented and reviewed with the employee, and are the personnel files maintained with the proper documents (should an audit take place, you should feel confident that all documents in the employee files could defend your decisions).
What are some strategies I can use to retain good employees?
Employees want more out of a job than just a salary. They are looking for a work-life balance, recognition and advancements to name a few. Offering flexible schedules or reduced work hours helps not only their work-life balance, but shows that you are invested in their well-being. Having a voice in the company promotes teamwork, engagement, and a company culture worth sticking around for.
